About Me…

My name is Paul Hermes, I am currently the Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction at Appleton North High School in the Appleton Area School District. Prior to coming to Appleton North, I was the Associate Principal at B6bdCBVd_400x400Bay View Middle School in the Howard-Suamico School District. I was named the 2016 Associate Principal of the Year for the State of Wisconsin.  I have been a professional educator since 2004, when I started my career at Appleton East High School in the Appleton Area School District as a social studies teacher – teaching World History, Sociology, US History and AP Comparative Government and Politics.

I believe my chosen profession is the most important in the world and have dedicated my life to it and our mission to improve the lives of our students, families and communities.  I consider myself to be a thinker and a learner, who is driven by a passion and mission to help others, to learn and grow, and to get better every day.  I am very active on Twitter (follow me @PaulHermesEDU) and strongly believe that the PLN I have developed through Twitter has given me some of the best ideas, learning and connections I have ever had.

I am the proud father of two wonderful children, who along with my wife, are the center of my life.  Being father and a husband have changed me and made me better – both as a person and a profession – in so many ways.  In my free time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends.  I am a die hard Packers and Badgers fan.  I am an avid golfer, a sport I find entirely engaging, challenging, and fulfilling in so many ways.

This blog is intended to be a platform for me to share my thoughts and ideas with others, in hopes that it will elicit reflection, questioning, discussion and change.
